A Poetry Soiree hosted by Traci O’Dea
Come along and join us for an evening of poetry inspired by the current
Word Play
Exhibition. Traci O’Dea will host this relaxed and sociable event with a series of readings of poems developed over the last week by the poets from her workshop. Traci’s workshops are renowned for bringing the best out of wordsmiths and would-be poets and this promises to be another magical evening filled with poetry and humour.
An Ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art. Through the imaginative act of narrating and reflecting on the “action” of a painting or sculpture, the poet may amplify and expand its meaning. Traci O’Dea has been leading Ekphrastic poetry workshops for many years, inspiring poets as well as beginners to put pencil to paper to create the most wonderful poems inspired, not only by the artworks in the gallery but by the inventive methodologies Traci conjures to lead poets through the creation of texts and poems.
An American poet with and former Jersey resident, Traci O'Dea is the author of two poetry collections: Waving (Assure Press, 2021) and Restricted Movement (Scotland Street Press, 2021). The audiobook for Restricted Movement is available on Audible, iTunes, and Amazon with Traci as the narrator. Her poems appear in the following places: BBC Radio Jersey, Poetry, Poetry Daily, Literary Matters, The Hopkins Review, The Jersey Evening Post, the Goethe Institut, and elsewhere. In 2024, Scotland Street Press will publish Traci O'Dea's feminist interpretations of Charles Baudelaire's Les Fleurs du Mal.
