Two day Skills Camp designed to introduce students to careers and activities in construction, engineering, mechanical and electrical skills. In partnership with the New Healthcare Facilities Programme, this two-day camp is an introduction for students to experience what it is like to take on different professional roles and inspire you to choose a career in construction. Industry professionals from the New Healthcare Facilities Programme will be working with students to inform them of the varied roles within the built environment. This Skills Camp will encourage you to widen your career horizons, challenge stereotypes, champion STEM careers and support you to achieve your career ambitions through the range of routes open to you. Supported by industry professionals and staff from Skills Jersey (part of the Children, Young People, Education and Skills Department), over two days you will participate in different activities designed to enhance your understanding and knowledge of the diverse sectors within the industry, using tools such as virtual reality technologies and enhancing your Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical engineering skills. You will also see behind the scenes how a construction project is managed, as well as designing your own building and presenting this to a panel of judges, plus much more! Day 1 – 9.00am to 3.00pm · Introduction to Engineering and construct your own free-standing bridge · Introduction to Mechanical and Electrical skills, including a circuit connecting activity · Introduction to sustainability. Day 2 – 9.00am to 3.00pm · The design and big build project - Students will be set the task to design and construct a building using materials provided. They will be split into groups and will be provided with their packs and shown the Sustainability requirements. · Each member of the group will be allocated a role – Architect, Civil and Structural Engineer, Quantity Surveyor, and Project Manager.
