The Eric the Seagull Memorial Ride 2025 is the Lasardine Cycling Club's annual excuse to pedal around Jersey in January, ostensibly to honour the legendary "Eric the Seagull" and his fateful run-in with Captain Black. Naturally, this event draws a motley crew of club members and the odd 82 %ers (those who don't quite make it out for the club rides but always turn up for the social events ). The ride kicks off at La Frégate Café at 10.00 am, where caffeine-fuelled optimism briefly masks the grim reality of cycling in winter. The highlight is a stop at St. Aubin's for the deeply moving reading of Eric's eulogy—rumour has it someone once managed to keep a straight face. The day wraps up at the Trinity Arms, the club's unofficial HQ, where participants refuel with a hearty breakfast, questionable "recovery shakes," and a side of smug self-congratulation. Truly a tribute Eric would have squawked about.
