Why should you attend? To learn or refresh existing knowledge on cannulation, blood sampling and IV drug administration. To enable staff to insert cannulas, take blood tests and administer intravenous medications. What skills will you take away? Theory and practice relating to the above skills. Demonstrations and practice of skills. Delivery of teaching by an experienced registered nurse who is able to advise, support and inform trainees. What are the SMART learning outcomes for the course? Specific- · Identified legal and ethical considerations for cannulation, blood sampling and IV drug administration · Anatomy & physiology of the veins & forearm · Type of venous access, gauges of cannula and rationale for choice · VIP & phlebitis · Blood sampling · Needlestick injury management · Aseptic non-touch technique · Drug calculations · Anaphylaxis Measurable- Observed practice, sign off of work book and record of attendance Achievable- Suitable for registered nurses who are hoping to practice these skills on completion of the training or those who have previously completed training but want to refresh their knowledge and practice Relevant- Knowledge and skills appropriate to attendees educational needs Time-Bound - Course lasts approx. 3 ½ hours
