FREE screening Directed by Sally Potter with Tilda Swinton portraying Orlando, Billy Zane as Marmaduke Bonthrop Shelmerdine and Quentin Crisp as Queen Elizabeth I . ‘Orlando’ , was published in 1928 and is a fictional biography of the immortal Orlando, who begins life as a young nobleman in Elizabethan England and later transforms into a woman. The novel is a satirical examination of gender roles and a commentary on the fluidity of identity. Woolf wrote ‘ Orlando’ as a love letter to her lover, Vita Sackville-West, and the novel is considered a landmark work of queer literature.
